Thread: Blender cheese tomato sauce lentil pasta

Cottage cheese has a good amount of protein, but it can get a little lumpy in a sauce. I'm always surprised by how much protein the Kraft fat-free cheddar has; 9g for 45 calories sounds a bit too good. It feels very plastic-y, but tastes good enough for me. I then heated chicken, minced garlic, some spices, and jalapenos. I probably should have heated the garlic and spices with the sauce though. Once the chicken heated up, I added the blended sauce.

Assembled meal oven pizza Trader Joe's

Gluten Free Cheese Pizza with Cauliflower Crust from Trader Joe's

Thin crust pizza with amazing crust/bread. I don't think I'd be able to tell this was made with cauliflower. Though most non-thick oven pizzas are starting to taste the same to me. I think Motor City Pizza Co. Supreme Detroit-style deep dish pizza was a bit better, but they are completely different pizzas. The entire thing is 780 calories with 33g of protein.

Movies Boston

Toy Story 5

The animation was so good that it almost seemed like it wasn’t even animation any more. It felt live-action and I’m not sure how I feel about that. This story was Jessie’s story more than Woody and Buzz. I loved seeing the focus on her and Bullseye rather than a bunch Woody and Buzz fighting like an old couple. I’d honestly watch a full movie on just Bullseye. I do wish we saw more of Rex, Hamm, and Slinky though. And of course, the Potato Heads too. Stay back when the movie ends: there’s a mid-credits and post-credits scene (song). As always, I enjoyed Trader Joe’s fully cooked-seasoned chicken breast bites while watching!

Assembled meal pizza

Motor City Pizza Co. Supreme Detroit-style deep dish pizza

This pizza thick, pillow-y, and amazing. What I mean is, this was one FAT juicy pizza and I loved every bite. It reminded me of the mythical childhood Friday night pizzas I used to order by having my mom talk to a human at the pizza restaurant. Most oven pizzas I buy tend to be way too thin, and they have a "stiff" chalky taste to them, but this one did not. The entire pizza was pretty big and I only had half of it for dinner. The entire pizza is 2220 calories and 102g of protein, so it's not a light dinner. I guess that means I ate 1000+ calories for dinner ...

Back Bay, Boston chicken Dig Dining out slop

Hot honey chicken bowl at Dig

The least sloppiest of slop bowls, IMO. I might not even call it a slop bowl because I can mix it, and still make out the individual ingredients unlike Chipotle and Cava. I like how it has no rice. The main carb is sweet potato and mac and cheese, not something I usually get. The broccoli is fine though a little dry, so I usually french it with hot sauce. The taste of the chicken, sweet potato, and mac and cheese is quite unique and blends well. From the website, one bowl is around 850 calories and 48g of protein.

Dining out israeli

Pulled chicken plate from Simcha

I ordered the pulled chicken plate with macaroni and Israeli salad. It was great, I mixed the chicken the Israeli salad together. Simcha was a popup restaurant at my office. My work has two popup restaurants every week. I thought this was weird at first, but now I love it because it lets me try out new places without having to leave the office. If it weren’t for this, I’d probably have to bring my own meals or eat Charred chicken rice at Dig all the time.

Thread: Lazy chicken mexican chicken bowl

If you didn't tell me this sour cream was a "light" variant, I probably wouldn't have noticed. But it tasted like if heavy sour cream and greek yogurt had a child. Should I just use greek yogurt next time and get the extra protein?

To make the chicken strips, preheat over at 400ºF, heat strips for 20 minutes, let them stand for 10 minutes. Optionally, a day before, marinate and season your chicken with salt pepper, onion powder, and cayenne powder, or whatever spices you like.

Allston, Boston Dining out

Chicken clay pot at Kaju

This was a cute, cozy restaurant in the depths of Koreatown. The food was fine; I usually prefer rice (fried rice) over noodles. Though this clay pot chicken rice definitely had noodles too. I couldn't finish it, so I picked out the chicken and left the rice and noodles. Costs: Chicken Clay Pot (my dish): $19.99 Chicken Pan Fried Noodles $18.99 Mul Naengmyeon (cold noodles): $17.49

Snacks Whole Foods

Marshmallow galaxy cereal from Whole Foods

I wanted cheaper, off-brand, and maybe slightly healthier Lucky Charms. And this did disappoint! Overall, it does not really taste like Cheerios + marshmallows, but more like plastic and stones and some soft stuff, I guess. But they are gluten-free, if you know what that means! I wanted to feel marginally better about having sugar and soft sugar for breakfast so I had them with Fairlife milk. Now not only did I have an unhealthy breakfast, but my wallet is empty after taking out a mortgage on high protein milk!

Boston Movies star-wars

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

I thought this movie was gonna be a quick cash grab with Grogu being milked. It actually felt like 4 or 5 episodes of The Mandalorian show back to back in a good way. Amazing visuals. The light being reflected off of Mando's helmet felt super realistic, especially in hyperspace. The moon of Shakari reminded me of Chicago after the rain, with lights and trains all above you. I love seeing new cities in Star Wars. Grogu was there, but I didn't get sick of him. They made him cute and cuddly while also giving him a bit of a story and having him do stuff and grow as a character. My favorite character has to be Rotta the Hutt. We've actually seen him before, in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated movie!

chicken movie-theater-friendly Snacks Trader Joe's

Fully cooked-seasoned chicken breast bites with honey mustard dipping sauce from Trader Joe’s

Got this 5-minute snack from Trader Joe's for $3.99. Totals 190 calories with 22g of protein (chicken + sauce), making it a high protein snack. A possible breakdown of the chicken and sauce is ~120 calories, 22g of protein: chicken ~70 calories, 0g of protein: sauce I was surprised, and slightly disappointed, to see the long list of ingredients. The good thing is that most chemistry-lab-sounding stuff is for the sauce and the simpler stuff is for the chicken, so it's not all that bad. Overall, this is a great quick snack, though it's not cheap. Perfect for taking into the movie theater because it doesn't smell too strong. Just don't spill the yellow mustard on your new white T-shirt.

Back Bay, Boston Dining out

Cheeseburger at 7th Street Burger

I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered just one cheeseburger, no fries. It wasn't too small. Tasted really good honestly, like a ... cheeseburger, no complaints. Staff was really nice and made me feel comfortable unlike most fast-food workers who are rushing you. Place was pretty small. It was pricey at $6.91 counting tax.

Assembled meal ham sandwich

Ham, cheese, lettuce sandwich and chips

A dead simple sandwich with bread: 2 slices, 140 calories, 6g of protein cheese: 2 slices, 80 calories, 6g of protein Ham: 8 slices, ~100 calories, 14g of protein Lettuce: <10 calories Maychup: ~100 calories Total: 430 calories, 26g of protein I had them with Jacksun's Sweet Potato Chips. They had a unique (good taste). 1/5 of the packet has 150 calories. My favorite thing about them is the simple ingredients list: Sweet potatoes, Avocado oil, Sea salt. Compare this with the chemistry lab of reagents in the Wheat Bread.

Thread: Canned chicken rice

The amount of protein in canned chicken has always surprised me. While it definitely has too much salt, I never would've guessed that this tiny can from Walmart fits 40-45g of protein.

Thread: Ultimate Plant-Based Chick'n filet burger

As for the nutrition facts: chicken patty: 300 cal, 22g of protein burger bun: 130 cal, 4g of protein cheese slice: 30 cal, 4g of protein drop of mayochup: 60cal (approx) That totals to 520 cal, and 30g of protein. Definitely not the highest protein meal. Note that the chicken patty is vegan, so the 22g of protein is plant-based protein. Rather than having a DV of 44%, it has a DV of only 27%.

Capital One Lounge JFK

Capital One Lounge JFK 2025

Best lounge I've visited. I enjoyed the "45-minute cheese experience" where they give you an assortment of cheeses, biscuits, and white wine. The food portions were small, but I can't complain because it's buffet style. The bathrooms were weirdly spacious. Maybe I accidentally used the handicap one though.

Assembled meal chicken rice Trader Joe's

Kung Pao Chicken and rice from Trader Joe's

One of the easiest not-too-unhealthy Trader Joe's meals to assemble. Included in the packet is the chicken, sauce, veggies, and peanuts only. 4 servings of 240 calories with 24g of protein, which puts it on the high protein list. Before you add rice though. I tend to add pre-cooked/parboiled brown rice from Walmart or Target because I'm lazy. All in all, it's an easy to assemble passive meal that will leave at least another meal's worth of leftover.

Dining out Harvard Square, Cambridge

Pizza at Pinocchio's Pizza & Subs

Pinocchio’s is a small, cozy restaurant with great thick bread-y pizza. I enjoyed the pepperoni and mushroom slices. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture before eating. No bathroom in the restaurant, but they’ll give you wet towel packets to clean your hands. It was easy to get here by bike. There's a Blue Bikes dock under 5 minutes away.

Back Bay, Boston Dining out Pressed Cafe sandwich

Pesto goat cheese BLT at Pressed Cafe

The Pesto Goat Cheese BLT is my favorite panini at Pressed. It’s a good mix of soft (tomato, cheese) and crunchy (bacon). All the signature paninis are good value: $12-16 gives you a large sandwich and a side, and a pickle too! Pressed Cafe probably sits between fast-casual and fine dining. You order standing up, and then they bring the food to you. It’s a great UX compared to fast-food or fast-casual places like McDonald’s or Panera, where you order, awkwardly stand around for 5-10 minutes in everyone’s way, pick up your food, then struggle to find a place to sit.

Back Bay, Boston Dining out

Fire + Ice

Unique experience like a buffet, but you choose the ingredients and they cook them for you. I like adding cheese to fried rice. Not many restaurants let you do that. I was with a group of 6, and I wish we could’ve eaten together. They cook each plate live after you hand it over, so you and your friends end up eating in shifts. Someone’s always waiting while the others eat.
